Lounge Bridge on the Alster
Site: Hamburg
Project Status: Proposal
Main Use: Lounge

For an exhibition organised by AIT Salon and the carpet company Object Carpet we were commissioned to design a lounge on the water while using carpet as material.
(ich würde gerne das Wort Stegreif-Entwurf unterbringen, weiss aber nicht, wie man das sagt…)

In this imaginary task we roll our carpet across the lake Alster to enable the public to stay at and on one of the most beautiful places of the city. The design opens up the movement into a vast space that normaly is (almost) not accessible, it offers new sights onto the city scape and allows to experience the extensiveness of Hamburg’s heart.

Pontoons covered with carpet are scattered on the opposite shores of the Alster and can be connected in various ways to form islands. From time to time they are connected to line up as a walkable connection between the east and west bank of the Alster, creating a shortcut across the Alster that normally is not possible.
The pontoons step down on both sides as to offer many places to sit close to the water.
